Why Rebecca is a voice for children fighting cancer:
Over the past few years, I walked with a close family member while she fought cancer. This experience opened my eyes and made me aware of the many people that are on the same journey as my family was. Therefore, I feel obligated to spread awareness of this deadly disease. Not only because of the massive impact cancer has on families, but because people should be mindful of their surroundings, especially as cancer is common universally. Dance has defined me for the large majority of my life and to come across a chance to use dance to convey such a meaningful, important message is truly satisfying. Furthermore, as a student, I feel the need to give back to the society that has served me for so many years. Young adults and teenagers take up a significant portion of our society and I think it’s important that we learn to use our voices to advocate for people who can’t. Therefore, I love inspiring more young people to do the same and speak for those in need.
